Marc Lepine â⬠Psychology Perspective - 2052 Words
MARC LEPINE ââ¬â PSYCHOLOGY PERSPECTIVE ABSTRACT Marc Lepine, a 25 year old boy entered the corridors of Montreals Ãâ°cole Polytechnique University and started separating boys and girls. He then opened fire and killed 14 girls (The Montreal Massacre ââ¬â Gunman massacres 14 women, 1989). Looking into Marcââ¬â¢s case deeply and studying his childhood reveals that his actions can be significantly explained using psychological theories such as Miller and Dollardââ¬â¢s Four Stage theory, the idea of lacking empathy and Bowlbyââ¬â¢s and Ainsworthââ¬â¢s attachment theory. This paper not only depicts the effect of the psychological deviant behaviours but also its connection to above mentioned theories. Steps have been taken to take thisâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦When he separated all the girls onto a corner, one girls tried explaining him that they are not feminists, just ordinary girls wanting to be engineers. He was so carried away by his hatred that he addressed all the engineering students as feminists ââ¬Å"wo men who are going to be engineers are a bunch of feministsâ⬠(Eglin and Hester, 2003) and killed them. In Marcââ¬â¢s life, just as in any criminalââ¬â¢s life, the absence of empathy played a major role in making him a criminal and committing a crime. DOLLARD AND MILLER STAGES Dollard and Miller talk about four essential stages in ones childhood. All the four stages are important for the proper development. If any of the stages is missing, it can have negative results throughout the life. The four stages are feeding, cleanliness, early sex training and anger / anxiety management. No evidence of a faulty training on the first three issues is present in Marcââ¬â¢s Life. However, fault at the fourth stage, anger/anxiety management, was present and played a major role in leading him to commit the crime. With the lack of the fourth stage development, an individual is not able to control his anger. If not worked on this, over time this becomes very dangerous and can lead to destructing results. The atmosphere he grew up seldom showed any anger / aggression management. His father used to physically abuse him and his mother for very little mistakes. Bike Service At Door Project
Question: Discuss about the Report for Bike Service At Door Project. Answer: Overview The objective of this initial report is to discuss the project scope and initial requirements and assumptions for a new Interface Design project. The project would be one a kind of services in Australia. With this service, people can get their bike servicing at their doorstep. This project or service would be known as Bike Service at Door. There would be a mobile application for this project and people can book the appointment with a click. The executive of Bike Service at Door would come and pick the bike at the appointed time (Krishan, 2012). The executive would get the bike services from the required service center. Once the servicing is done, the executive would bring the bike back to the owner. Initially, this project or this service would be launched in Sydney. This is the initial report that highlights the project in brief and this report would be the basis of the detailed project. Vision The vision of the project is to make life easy and convenient for bike owners who are busy in their life and who does not have time to give bike for servicing. The interface of the website and mobile application would be a plain html interface. The users can just open the application and book the appointment. This in turn would make life easy of users. With this interface, the users can book the appointment on a single screen. The vision is to have a light interface in place that could be accessed by the users on desktops and mobile devices. Outcome With this project, the bike owners can get the bike serviced at their doorsteps. The outcome is that the bike owners would not need to go to the service center to get their bike serviced (Suarez, 2014). The expected technical outcome is that a system of two to three screens would be developed. The UI (User Interface) would be same for desktop and mobile version. However, the user interface would be more intuitive for mobile devices. Scope To develop a mobile application and web portal for people to book the appointment with a click. The executive of Bike Service at Door would come and pick the bike at the appointed time. The executive would get the bike services from the required service center. Once the servicing is done, the executive would bring the bike back to the owner. The functional and the non-functional requirements as part of the scope of this project can be listed as: Functional scope The functionality would allow the users to book the appointment online. There would be an Appointment-Booking screen on interface that would be linked with the various suppliers. The users can select either select the supplier or get the supplier auto selected. Once the request is made, the request is pass on to the service provider and user gets a confirmation message. The confirmation message has date and time and the customer executive visit the customer or decided time to pick up the bike. Non-functional scope The website or the mobile application should have good performance even when a large number of users are logged into the system. The non-functional requirements or the performance requirement of the system is that it should be able to support at least 1000 users. Objectives, Outputs and Targets The objective is to mobile application and web portal people to book the appointment with a single click. The output or the target state would be a website and a mobile application that the bike owners can use to book the service appointment for their bikes (Turner, 2014). It is targeted, the bike owners in Sydney would use this service as it would be ease and convenient for them to get the bike services without them going to the service station. Success Criteria The two key success criteria for this project can be discussed as: The mobile application and website would be developed that would be used by the bike owners to book the appointment (Kumar, 2012) There are enough executives that would go to the doorstep of people to collect the bike, deliver to respective service stations, and return the bike back to bike owners The application/ user interface would be accessible on desktop as well as mobile devices. Key assumptions The key assumptions of this project can be discussed as: The people are ready to use this service and people would trust the executives to give the bike for servicing. There would not be any technological challenges to develop the website and mobile applications The service centers would accept the bike from the service executives who are not the owners of the bike. It is assumed that the interface would be made compatible with at least three browsers: Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome It is assumed that the mobile application would be compatible with Android devices and iOS. It is assumed that the mobile web interface would be developed with html and flash Silverlight. The mobile web browser would be light as compared to the web version on desktop. It is assumed that the users would be able to use the mobile application to make the appointment. References Corona-Suarez, G. A., AbouRizk, S. M., Karapetrovic, S. (2014). Michelangelo Essays (1831 words) - Sistine Chapel,
Michelangelo Michelangelo (1475-1564), arguably one of the most inspired creators in the history of art and, with Leonardo da Vinci, the most potent force in the Italian High Renaissance. As a sculptor, architect, painter, and poet, he exerted a tremendous influence on his contemporaries and on subsequent Western art in general. A Florentine - although born March 6, 1475, in the small village of Caprese near Arezzo - Michelangelo continued to have a deep attachment to his city, its art, and its culture throughout his long life. He spent the greater part of his adulthood in Rome, employed by the popes; characteristically, however, he left instructions that he be buried in Florence, and his body was placed there in a fine monument in the church of Santa Croce. Early Life in Florence Michelangelo's father, a Florentine official named Ludovico Buonarroti with connections to the ruling Medici family, placed his 13-year-old son in the workshop of the painter Domenico Ghirlandaio. After about two years, Michelangelo studied at the sculpture school in the Medici gardens and shortly thereafter was invited into the household of Lorenzo de' Medici, the Magnificent. There he had an opportunity to converse with the younger Medicis, two of whom later became popes (Leo X and Clement VII). He also became acquainted with such humanists as Marsilio Ficino and the poet Angelo Poliziano, who were frequent visitors. Michelangelo produced at least two relief sculptures by the time he was 16 years old, the Battle of the Centaurs and the Madonna of the Stairs (both 1489-92, Casa Buonarroti, Florence), which show that he had achieved a personal style at a very early age. His patron Lorenzo died in 1492; two years later Michelangelo fled Florence, when the Medici were temporarily Expelled. He settled for a time in Bologna, where in 1494 and 1495 he executed several marble statuettes for the Arca (Shrine) di San Domenico in the Church of San Domenico. First Roman Sojourn Michelangelo then went to Rome, where he was able to examine many newly unearthed classical statues and Ruins. He soon produced his first large-scale sculpture, the over-life-size Bacchus (1496-98, Bargello, Florence). One of the few works of pagan rather than Christian subject matter made by the master, it rivaled ancient Statuary, the highest mark of admiration in Renaissance Rome. At about the same time, Michelangelo also did the marble Piet? (1498-1500), still in its original place in Saint Peter's Basilica. One of the most famous works of art, the Piet? was probably finished before Michelangelo was 25 years old and it is the only work he ever signed. The youthful Mary is shown seated majestically, holding the dead Christ across her lap, a theme borrowed from northern European art. Instead of revealing extreme grief, Mary is restrained, and her expression is one of resignation. In this work, Michelangelo summarizes the sculptural innovations of his 15th-century predecessors such as Donatello, while ushering in the new monumentality of the High Renaissance style of the 16th century. First Return to Florence The high point of Michelangelo's early style is the gigantic (4.34 m/14.24 ft) marble David (Accademia, Florence), which he produced between 1501 and 1504, after returning to Florence. The Old Testament hero is depicted by Michelangelo as a lithe nude youth, muscular and alert, looking off into the distance as if sizing up the enemy Goliath, whom he has not yet encountered. The fiery intensity of David's facial expression is termed terribilit?, a feature characteristic of many of Michelangelo's figures and of his own personality. David, Michelangelo's most famous sculpture, became the symbol of Florence and originally was placed in the Piazza della Signoria in front of the Palazzo Vecchio, the Florentine town hall. With this statue Michelangelo proved to his contemporaries that he not only surpassed all modern artists, but also the Greeks and Romans, by infusing formal beauty with powerful expressiveness and meaning. While still occupied with the David, Michelangelo was given an opportunity to demonstrate his ability as a painter with the commission of a mural, the Battle of Cascina, destined for the Sala dei Cinquecento of the Palazzo Vecchio, opposite Leonardo's Battle of Anghiari. Neither artist carried his assignment beyond the stage of a cartoon, a full-scale preparatory drawing. Michelangelo created a series of nude and clothed figures in a wide variety of poses and positions that are a prelude to his next major project, the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. The Sistine Chapel Ceiling Michelangelo was recalled to Rome by Pope Julius II in 1505 for two commissions. The most important one

Western Civilization from Ancient Greece, Rome, India and China essays
Western Civilization from Ancient Greece, Rome, India and China essays There are many contributions to Western Civilization from Ancient Greece, Rome, India, and China. Many of them are very important to us and are necessities in everyday life. We can observe these contributions throughout our society today. Ancient Greece contributed many things to our culture. Some of the major contributions are the Olympics, architecture, and government. The Olympics are an important part of Western Civilization and were started by the Greeks. Document five shows the beginning of the Olympics and how the Greeks created them. Architecture such as columns and triangular rooftops created by the Greeks can be seen in many buildings today. Document three shows how our culture adapted from Ancient Greek structures. Document four shows this government and the similarities between Ancient Greeces version of it and our own today. Ancient Rome also contributed many things to our civilization. These included the arch and dome architecture, meals, and some laws that we use today. The arch and dome architecture is very important in our civilization, since it is used in building football stadiums, government buildings, and other important structures. Examples of this architecture can be seen in document nine. The meals we eat today were adapted from Roman meals. Document eight shows how the Romans had appetizers, main courses, and desserts, just as we have today. Some laws we have today were also adapted from Ancient Rome. Document seven shows this and how similar our laws are. An example is Ancient Romes third law and ours, which says a person, is innocent until proven guilty. Ancient Chinas major contribution to our civilization was the making of paper. They did this by using wood pulp. The use of paper has traveled throughout the world and is a necessity for everyday life. Its been used to document historical events and important information. Activities - Essay Example However, lack of eye contact might show a real disinterest which would make the person presenting or discussing change strategies to keep their attention. A person needs to know the differences between all of these verbal and non-verbal cues to create a strategy for effective conversation or presentation. Emotional intelligence is important because it helps a person understand their own feelings and also the feelings of others. This helps the group member keep self-control and not act on their negative emotions which can be a turn off from others in the group. It also shows others in the group that you have empathy for their needs and gives you a strategy to talk on their level to gain more interest and willingness to follow. Emotions create social connection. When a person wants to be a team leader, they cannot be explosive when angry or overly excited if they want a positive follower response. In reflection, I learned a great deal about my personality. I often dismiss the words of others when I feel strongly about a certain issue or activity. This is because I have a great deal of trust in my own decision-making and I often do not like to work in groups because of this. However, I learned that active listening actually provides more diversity of solutions or quality discussion when the group leader gives people opportunities to speak their minds. This will be beneficial because people like to share in decision-making and be recognized for their own talents and knowledge. I will remember to be an active listener when in a leader role so that I gain more commitment and better social relationships with a mutual and shared focus. The most important lesson learned was about emotional intelligence. Many people have their own sets of values and principles that are unique from others. These attitudes impact behavior, discussion and the amount of conflict that can arise in the group or team. It is important to understand that people

Middle East Final Exam Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words
Middle East Final Exam - Essay Example This was followed by Christian anti-Semitism, which occurred in the middle epoch and was principally religious in nature. This was further followed by conventional or olden Muslim anti-Semitism, which was apparently nuanced due to the case of Jews being protected socially. Socio-political and economical anti-Semitism associated with Europe in the period of enlighten and post enlightenment which crafted the basis for racial anti-Semitism. Racial anti-Semitism was inculcated in the era of Nazism around the 19th century (Falk 5). Modern anti-Semitism has emerged lately and is acknowledged as fresh anti-Semitism. However, in our study, we will deal with the anti-Semitism occurring in the 19th century. The introduction of the era of industrialization and the scientist revolution in Europe encouraged and was characterized by extreme anti-Semitism (Falk 25). Zionism is a Jewish political affiliation that aims at empowering and boosting the self esteem of the Jewish people in a sovereign nat ional homeland of the Jews. It advocates for the Jewish people and addresses the critical intimidation and threats to their affluence and continued existence. Liberal Zionism, being our major focus, included advocacies by Zionist leaders such as Herzi and Weizmann, although not directed to a single party, for democracy and human rights adherence and free market capitalism. Kadima, however, diverted his advocacy towards the establishment of a democratic society in Israel, the dire need for Palestinian statehood and granting of equal rights for Israeli Arab citizens among other grievances (Falk 5). Theodor Herzl is the father to modern Zionism and emergence of the Israeli state. The imminent rise of anti-Semitism was what pickled Herzlââ¬â¢s attention and caused him to inculcate the fight against it. Despite the fact that he was steeped into the European culture, Herzl was perturbed by the augmenting hate for the Jews and, thus, started fighting for his dignity (Falk 55). With cont inued fight against Zionist movement by various Jewish leaders, Herzl pressed for more attention on the congress to conquer the communities or work with the Jewish communities in addition to political focus on the Palestine community. Thus, he elicited cohesion and serenity in the Jewish and Palestinian communities through activism as he wrote news articles discouraging anti-Semitism. Thus, he addressed the plight of the Jews and pressed for independence of Palestine and freedom foe Jewish people to his grave. Chaim Weizmann was brought up in a Jewish steeped setting and grew up aware of the plight of Jews. He played a big role in fighting for Zionism. In his liaison with Balfour for the enforcement of the Balfourââ¬â¢s declaration, Weizmann confessed that all he needed was home for his people. He secured a credit as one of the founding fathers of Israel. In 1919, Weizmann and his acquaintance Faisal, the future crown of Iraq, stroke an accord dubbed the Faisal-Weizmann agreement , which inculcated peaceful relations between Arabs and Jews within the Middle East. This accord lobbied for the settlement of Jews in Palestine (Falk 55). After this accord, Weizmann became the influential leader of the world Zionist movement where he liaised with Albert Einstein to raise funds for the construction of the Hebrew university in Jerusalem. He ended up as the first president of Israel where he brought people together. Before and after the Second World War,

Laws and policies affect family life Essay Example for Free
Laws and policies affect family life Essay ââ¬Å"Examine the ways in which laws and social policies affect family lifeâ⬠To start with a social policy is an initiative or plan that the government would put in place to try and fix a problem or to make a positive change in society. Various political and social groups have different opinions on social policies, for example in the UK conservatives are very right wing and as of the moment Mr Osborne is proposing to save à £10billion by making cuts across the board in its welfare fund. The Labour party however would be unlikely to make such drastic cuts if they were in office. This essay will explore marriage and divorce, the welfare state and domestic abuse policies. Marriage affect many families, the government has a number of laws to control people behaviour inside marriages for example marriages must be monogamous (You can only be married to one person at a time) Governments tend to encourage marriage as they believe the nuclear family is the ideal environment to bring up children, couples receive tax credits and other benefits this also discourages divorce, Marxists would believe that this is the governments way of supporting capitalism, by encouraging people to marry it means they remain a productive asset that they can continue to exploit. The new right would agree that the nuclear family is the best place to bring up a family but would not want to give tax credits or any other financial encouragement as they believe that its best to keep out of peoples affairs. Feminists would feel this is another way of oppressing women, by using financial means to discourage divorce the women may feel as though they are trapped in the relationship especially if they have to support outside the family. Divorces where first made legal in 1857 although at that time they where incredible hard to get however changes in divorce laws in the late 1960s made divorces much easier and since then divorce rates have been steeply rising. Functionalists and the New Right think that divorce is a bad thing and believe once there is marriage between two people this marriage should be permanent. Both perspectives see males and females as having different roles in the family, the male ââ¬â earns the wages and the woman ââ¬â Cares for and brings up the children on top of the housework whilst the man is working. These perspectives, believe that this is the right way for the family to be and that single parent families are wrong because they have not got one of the parental figures around, they feel single parent families are wrong because they lack the support you get from having 2 adults. Feministsà would disagree with this view and would say that women are exploited by men, both in the workforce and at home, and seen as figures in relationships who are there to please menââ¬â¢s needs after being at work. Marxist Engels states ââ¬Å"The housewifes position is one of glorified prostitution Engels (1902)â⬠Feminists see this as one explanation to the dramatic increases of divorce, they say women donââ¬â¢t want to be in a relationship where they are exploited. Feminists also believe that the government offer benefits that are not available to different types of couples such as cohabiting couples; they see this as the governmentââ¬â¢s way of encouraging marriage and discourage any other ways of living they feel this is causing less people to have a divorce even though they may not be happy. Welfare state, the welfare state is the system where benefits are given to those who are entitled or qualify for them, for example the job seekers allowance where the government gives you money if you are searching for a job. Marxists see this as supporting capitalism because if the proletariat are working for the bourgeoisie they are being actively exploited by being grossly underpaid for the services. This happens because the Bourgeoisie own the means of work. The welfare state appease the poor and makes the Proletariat feel as though they are being well treated but its just a smoke screen to stop them seeing the bigger picture, Its a tool used by the government to prevent class consciousness and revolution. The new right disagrees with this view and in fact sees it a weakening the family because they feel the families become over reliant on the generous benefits the welfare state grants them new labour although it has similar views as new right feels that the welfare system is a good way to support and encourage young people to work. Feminists have the independent view that the benefit system only supports the patriarchal nuclear family and neglects all other forms of family. When men get benefits they feel this weakens the womenââ¬â¢s position because the man is in control of his wages and the benefit. However feminists also feel the benefits women do get ââ¬Å"more maternity leaveâ⬠and ââ¬Å"control of child benefitsâ⬠are trying to cement the view that women should be staying at home and looking after the children. The government has laws that are designed to protect all members of the family from domestic abuse, this is achieved by social services taking children out of dangerous families or the police will remove the violent family members, there are also various programmes andà counselling available to try and fix family problems to maintain stable family life. It is hard to depict how successful theses measures are as many domestic abuse cases go unreported due to fear, embarrassment and love. So even though the government provides services such as counselling and social services its unlikely we will ever know the true extent of domestic abuse because we donââ¬â¢t know what goes on behind closed doors. Liberal Feminists would believe that the safeguards put in place are a step forward to protecting women however Radical feminists would feel that it was not enough and moor should be done to help protect women. Marxists are not opposed to sanctions put in place to help protect the family. To conclude i would say social policies effect families in positive and negative ways, while the new right believe that social policies should favour the nuclear families while feminists and Marxists feel that the government need to recognize other family types such as cohabiting couples and gay couples and make laws which benefit them.
